Under general supervision, performs the more difficult and responsible follow-up and field work concerning animal bites and similar complaints; conducts investigations of animal bites instructs the public on treatment of persons bitten, and on animal control regulations and City of Detroit ordinances; and develop and maintains reference files and reports.

Obtains information by telephone and other correspondence regarding animal bites or circumstances and incidents which appear to indicate violations of animal control ordinances.
Locates and contacts animal bite victims.
Interviews bite victims, family members, witnesses and others to obtain necessary information specific to the incident.
Determines animal ownership and license status. Refers victims and families to appropriate medical treatment sources and related agencies.
Issues citations instances of ordinance violations. Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding animal control ordinances and regulations.
Prepares and maintains related records and files. Extracts and compiles information from records to assist in preparation for litigation proceedings.

High School Graduation or GED.
Two Years of experience in clerical or public contact work, preferably involving investigation or inspection work.
Two Years of experience in Animal Shelter work.
Valid State of Michigan Operator License required.
Candidate considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.
