The purpose of this classification is to educate and provide valuable experience to students who have a passion for public service, and would like to pursue a career in local government.

Job Responsibilities

Understands the overall vision and mission of the city, including the brand, service to the citizens/general public, and all other aspects of service.
Rotates through the assigned department and learn responsibility and provides innovative ideas to grow and improve the city.
Accepts designated, city-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final project during the internship.
Engages with citizens or other city employees and provides service.
Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes.
Learns and becomes proficient on internal software systems as needed.

SPECIFIC PROJECT ASSIGNMENT

Cultivating the next generation of recreation professionals is a core passion of our department. You will be placed across two different divisions as we aim to provide a well-rounded, immersive experience that fosters both professional growth and practical skills. As an intern during our busy summer season, you will provide essential support to our full-time staff, enhancing efficiency, streamlining operations, and ensuring a higher level of service to our community.

Summer Camp Preparation

Assist with classroom prep, supply sorting, class rosters and other duties as needed
Actively work all areas for camp, before and after care, check-ins
Intern will be working directly with ages 5-13.

Special Events

Races, Back to School Jam, Movies, Concerts, Pigs and Peaches, Salute to America

Minimum Qualifications

Currently in college or undergraduate program
Passion for service in the public sector
Preferred Major/Area of Study: Recreation/Special Events

Start date: May 19, 2025

End Date: August 17, 2025

Please note: This is a temporary internship position (40 hours)

Typical Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Work Environment: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
