The Gaston County Attorney’s Office seeks students interested in public service and local government operations to participate in our summer internship opportunity for law students.

The Gaston County Attorney’s Office will offer a summer internship opportunity for a law student who has completed their first year (or the equivalent for part-time students) at an American Bar Association-accredited law school. Applicants would be expected to work approximately 40 hours per week. The selected intern will earn $25.00 per hour. This is an in-person internship and may include attendance at some advisory board or commission meetings, which occur in the evenings.

An anticipated hourly salary range for this position is $25.00.
The duties listed below are not all the duties that may be assigned, but are those considered essential for an employee to perform.

Conduct legal research on statutes, case law, regulations, and agency rules to support attorneys.
Review and analyze case files, contracts, and public records to identify key facts and legal issues relevant to government operations.
Assist in courtroom and hearing preparation by organizing exhibits, preparing witness outlines, and drafting case summaries.
Observe and attend hearings, trials, and meetings to gain exposure to litigation, code enforcement, ethics, and community development matters.
Perform administrative tasks, including maintaining case files, updating databases, and organizing legal materials, to ensure efficient office operations.

Applicants must:

Be currently enrolled at an American Bar Association-accredited law school, and have completed their first year of law school
Be available to work approximately 20 hours per week.
