This position requires animal service officers to be responsible for capturing and impounding stray animals, investigating cases of animal cruelty, enforcing licensing laws, provide expert testimony in court cases, rescuing trapped animals, writing incident reports, assisting the local law enforcement agencies within our county, and providing humane care to animals under their supervision. While on duty, the officer will interact with members of the public. They will issue citations and warnings to individuals that aren't in compliance with county laws. The officer may provide educational seminars to the community on topics such as animal welfare and animal related laws. Each officer will be required to be on call for emergency type situations after hours. Animal service officers must take adequate safety precautions when working in potentially dangerous situations with unfamiliar and unpredictable animals or irrational and irate owners.

Tasks: Complete assignment as directed; maintain work areas; knowledge of general orders; transport animals; issue warnings and citation; impound animals; contacting owners; responds to animal call requests; and advises public on animal matters.

An associate degree from an accredited institution and two years related experience or a high school diploma and four years of related experience, or one year in sequential position.
Knowledge of the care of animals.
Knowledge of Sarasota County Animal Control Ordinances.
Ability to have compassion for animals and make careful visual observations.
Ability to effectively communicate and enforce the laws, both verbally and written, to citizens and colleagues with firmness and impartiality.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
