The Town of Atherton Internship Program is designed to help students gain professional public sector work experience pertaining to their academic area of interest and/or study. This is an opportunity to build networking, communication, and analytical skills. In addition, internships at the Town of Atherton are project-based and can help steer students into a possible career direction. Interns work under direct supervision, with some periods of autonomy, while learning and performing basic job tasks required for a variety of projects. Schedule (Flexible) 10 + Hours per week

Potential Projects

· Help manage and develop strategies to grow the Town social media presence by engage residents across Town platforms. Assist with content creation and public education and outreach.

· Conduct a Records Management Project related to Legislative items of the City Council (Resolutions, Ordinances, Minutes, Correspondence) to enhance Town transparency and response times to Public Records Request, see https://www.cacities.org/CPRAGuide.

· Assist with the management of community engagement initiatives and activities.

Supervision Received:

Receives direct supervision from higher level City Management staff.

Essential Functions

· Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Conducting research on Town related topics, participating in community outreach and engagement activities, and assisting with operational functions.

· Produce regular reports on progress of projects and assist with office administration tasks related to the project as needed.

Qualifications:

· Students enrolled in an accredited college or university and working towards a degree.

· Recent college graduates will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

· A Town of Atherton employment application is required, and a supplemental questionnaire may be requested.

· Prior to hire, verification of current enrollment or work permit is required.

· Verification of school enrollment will be monitored by the department liaison.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and/or training may consist of prior work experience related to research, writing and reading comprehension. Coursework or work / internship experience related to government, community engagement, social media or digital content designing.

Training:

· Undergraduate students enrolled in Spring 2023.
