- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
- All of the positions require the incumbent to possess certifications*** GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations as a team member; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents.
GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade. 2)Performing rescue operations as a team member 3) Operating pumps, foam generators, and other similar equipment.
GS-04 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial volunteer, governmental fire department brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Operating fire communications equipment.
GS-03 Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience. General experience must demonstrate the following: 1) ability to follow directions 2:) To read, understand, and retain instructions, regulations, and procedures. 3) Ability to perform the duties of the position.

GS-07: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, HAZMAT Technician, Apparatus Driver Operator-Pumper, CPR, and Nationally Registered EMT-Basic. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications you will be rated ineligible.

GS-06: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, HAZMAT Operations, and Apparatus Driver Operator-Pumper. GS-04/ GS-03 The position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain the Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification within 12 months of employment.

Education
I
n lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-05 level with the following education substitute: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related field of study leading to a bachelor degree.
OR Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-04 level with the following education substitute: Successful completion of a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or another related course work.
OR Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-03 level with the following education substitute: Successful completion of a 1-year related education or training.
OR Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
This is a PRIMARY/RIGOROUS position for SPECIAL RETIREMENT COVERAGE purposes.
Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
Several vacancies may be filled.
Firefighters must be physically fit at all times in order to perform the duties of their position to the best of their abilities. As such, all operationally based 0081 series employees shall participate in a Wellness and Fitness Program established by their Fire Department, in order to maintain a level of health and fitness necessary for performing their job functions.
The employee is required to work a 72 hrs weekly, 144 hrs biweekly work schedule.
This position requires rotating shift work.
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).May be subject to recall.
Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
