The Department of Social and Health Services is hiring an energetic and progressive fire service leader.
Our Fire Chief at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island will have a history of leveraging innovative leadership strategies to maintain high service standards and cultivate accountability. We're looking for a Fire Chief with extensive fire service operational experience, known for uncompromising integrity, adherence to stellar professional standards, and dedication to increasing department diversity and advancing our commitment to equity and inclusion.
Some Of What You'll Do
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of the Fire Department, including all aspects of structural and wildland fire suppression, emergency medical services, marine operations, water rescue, technical rescue, hazardous material response and mitigation, training, prevention, inspection services, and equipment maintenance.
- Provide daily administrative oversight for department staff, emphasizing safety, provision of high-quality customer service, and professional development.
- Legal and regulatory compliance assurance, inter-local agreement administration, and policy development.
- Promote inter-agency collaboration.
Who should apply?
Those Who Have An Emergency Medical Technician License And
Four years of experience as a lieutenant or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities.
Or
Two years of experience as a lieutenant or above at a fire department involved in fire suppression activities including at least one year as a fire codes enforcement officer.
Special Commitment Center employees ride a passenger ferry between Steilacoom and McNeil Island. The trip is approximately 20 minutes each way. In addition to the advertised salary, employees receive $10 per day premium pay and a free Orca card for use with public transportation.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location will be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
