To perform a variety of activities in support of water, wastewater, street maintenance and upkeep.

1. Reports to: Division Manager Water/Sewer Utilities
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
3. Other: Has contact with other city employees and the general public.
Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties
Essential Duties
- Maintain, repair and install items relating to streets, water, wastewater, pavement, sidewalks, trails and drainage systems; Operates various types of equipment necessary in the daily repair, installation and maintenance of the above.
- Maintains and performs repairs on water mains, wastewater mains, service lines, service laterals, meters, meter boxes, cleanouts, manholes, valves and fire hydrants;
- Scheduled routinely on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays, as required;
- Installs, connects, services and reads water meters;
- Repairs lift stations;
- Repairs and installs signs and sign poles;
- Uses hand tools to dig ditches or holes, and shovels dirt, gravel, asphalt, or sand;
- Performs road repairs and road maintenance.
- Performs general maintenance and construction duties.
Other Important Duties
Dependable / Punctual at work and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness;
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. May assist with Park Department activities as needed.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of:
Maintenance Principles: processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair, and efficiency.
Office Software: current database programs including work order software, general programs used by the City and become trained on the City's SCADA software.
Basic Math: add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly.
Safety: enclosed space, trench safety, and safety procedures related to the job. Must wear required safety equipment and uniform.
Skill/Ability to:
Cooperation: establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Accuracy: attention to detail in dealing with numbers, words, and ideas.
Mechanical/Technical: safely operating diverse equipment including hand tools, large pumps, meters, tractors, sewer equipment, fire hydrants and valves.
Oral Comprehension: listening to and understanding information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Sequencing: correctly following a given rule or set of rules to arrange things or actions.
Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Oral Expression: communicating information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
Education and Experience:
High school graduation or G.E.D. Plus two years of related experience;
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other Requirements
Preferred: Must reside within a 60 minute response time from City Hall.
Certifications and Licenses Required:
Appropriate, valid class " A" or " B" commercial Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 4 months of hire.
Possession of minimum TCEQ Class C water license or TCWQ Class 2 wastewater collection license. And be able to obtain subsequent license in 12 months.
