General Purpose: Responsible for the functions related to the accounting department and those assigned to the financial analyst position. Assists the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with financial modeling, asset/liability management, the rate setting process, credit union annual budget and other assignments as determined. Also responsible for directing and overseeing all financial activities of the Credit Union and developing and maintaining a financial reporting system that monitors achievement of Credit Union goals and objectives.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Direct daily operations of Accounting, Finance, and Internal Audit operations.
- Serves as a participant of the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO). Oversees preparation of ALM reports, trends and analyses. Prepares relevant reports/packet for the ALCO, presents the packet of reports and serves as an active member to the committee.
- Direct and oversee BHFCU’s Asset/Liability Management program in order to ensure all objectives are met and reporting is done in a timely manner.
- Works with CFO on managing BHFCU’s investment portfolio and balance sheet strategy. Balance sheet strategy includes, but not limited to, funds management, hedging, asset and loan participation sales, liquidity and cash flow management.
- Analyze costs, activities, operations, and forecast data to determine departmental progress towards stated goals. Oversees the preparation of financial reports to include reviews, analysis and interpretations. Assists with presenting reports to leaders and executive teams when applicable.
- Establishes projects and goals for each area of responsibility and tracks performance.
- Responsible for the preparation of the annual Credit Union Operating, Capital Acquisition, and Personnel budgets for presentation to the CFO, President/CEO and Board. Implement annual financial strategic plan and oversee back-office operations budget to accomplish objectives. Maintain control over departmental expenditures versus budget.
- Responsible for periodic analysis of budget projections, variances and profitability.
- Prepares and maintains disaster recovery plan as it pertains to accounting, finance and ALM components. Supports other areas as needed and serves as a member of the Business Continuity Team.
- Works with CFO to develop strategic financial goals and regulatory financial compliance.
- Assist in the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of internal controls, as well as policies and procedures. Read, interpret, review and comply with all federal and state legislation pertaining to accounting and other back-office operations. Maintains awareness of new trends and advances in the Credit Union industry and maintains professional affiliations.
- Responsible for managing and directing people and/or resources with fairness and consistency to meet departmental goals. Promote teamwork and encourage process improvement, while creating a positive work environment where employees feel recognized and valued. Responsible for evaluating employees, determining talents and development opportunities, and working with employees to improve performance, enhance skills, or create loyalty to the credit union. Conduct timely employee performance appraisals and coaching, and effectively resolve employee issues and performance concerns.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assure the development of individual and department plans and budgets that are consistent with the strategic plan and overall budget.
- Work closely with other leadership and department management personnel to ensure that the overall operation of the Credit Union runs smoothly. Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with BHFCU staff and management.
- Assist with development and tracking of internal employee incentive programs.
- Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive and technology environments that may affect the accounting, share draft, item processing, and purchasing functions. Ensure accounting procedures are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
- Perform specific and delegated duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Credit Union finance and other back-office operations.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of the financial industry, including an understanding of the Federal Reserve System; the check clearing process; and the legal theory of negotiable instruments
- An understanding of basic EFT and ACH technology.
- An understanding of planning. Should understand the basic mechanics and have a realistic working understanding of a management by objectives system.
- Knowledgeable in personnel administration with an understanding of wage and salary administration; performance evaluation; succession planning; and training.

- Working knowledge of computers including personal computers and related software, in-house system and basic office machines.
- Ability to generate and analyze research data.
- Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills, and conduct productive meetings.
- Working knowledge of appropriate financial analysis techniques.
Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Job requires a four-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills. Five years' experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable. A CCUE, CPA or CMA designation is desirable. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.

Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
