Under the general supervision of the Parks and Community Programs Manager, this position is responsible for planning, directing and reviewing the activities and operations of the Library and the Museum.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSA Master’s Degree in Library Science.
A Minimum of two years’ experience working in a public or educational library.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:Must be a member, or eligible to become a member of The Texas Library Association or The American Library Association.
- Responsible for directing library and museum staff including paid and volunteer personnel.
- Prepares an annual budget to be submitted to the Parks and Community Programs Manager [AA1]in accordance with the City requirements.
- Oversees the expenditures of the budget
- Prepares strategic planning with measurable outcomes to guide Library staff
- Responsible for the monthly and annual reports of library services and activities including all financial matters.
- Suggests and carries out plans for extending services for the library.
- Develops programming for children and adults.
- Works with librarians in the Royse City school district.
- Selects and orders all books and other library materials and regularly updates the collections.
- Directs the care and maintenance of the library building and equipment.
- Maintains library certification.
- Attend all required meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences of organizations appropriate to the library and management fields.
- Research grants and helps request grants for the library and/or museum.
- Answering inquiries, correspondence and e-mails in a timely manner;
- Overseeing maintenance, safety and cleanliness of the facility;
- Maintaining the proper temperature and environment for optimum care of the exhibits;
- Manage the Cultural Arts Board monthly meeting, including posting agendas and submitting the minutes to the appropriate City personnel;
- Utilizing PastPerfect Museum Software to catalog items;
- Access and Deaccess items in accordance with the Policy and Procedure Manual
- Maintaining such files as to identify all items in the Museum’s care, either through purchase or accession, whether in storage or on exhibition;
- Designing layout and construction of all exhibits and overseeing implementation;
- Inspection of all incoming loan items to ensure they comply with Museum policy;
- Researching items and determining valuation through internet and other means;
- Perform other duties as required
- Skill in organizing and maintaining filing systems
- Ability to organize and direct employees
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System
- Basic computer processing skills
- Knowledge of public library services and operations and of library collections
Work includes prolonged sitting, must be able to lift and move at least 25 pounds, must be able to perform carrying, reaching, stooping, pulling, and pushing activities, and must have clear speech, vision, and hearing acuity.
