General Description Of Duties
This is a responsible administrative and professional work managing marketing communications programs including public relations, promotions, and certain components of the advertising plan which promotes and sells the Tallahassee area resulting in a positive economic impact.

Essential Duties
Manages marketing communications functions. Manages and oversees advertising agency portion of public relations, social media and promotional responsibilities. Manages, oversees and produces content for the cooperative advertising program with industry stakeholders and advertising agency. Manages website events functions with industry and the advertising agency. Manages and oversees all communications and publications.
Develops timely and relevant written and visual content for all Tourism websites including VisitTallahassee.com, TheAdderleyAmphitheater.com, VisitTallahasseeSports.com and MBTallahassee.com.
Develops digital content for use on the Visit Tallahassee mobile app and Visitor Center kiosk including itineraries, partner listings and promotional messaging.
Oversees the PR/Marketing Specialist charged with generating positive editorial for the destination in print, electronic and online media. Assists in developing possible story opportunities. Host media site visits.
Develops and manages industry stakeholder and resident communications program. Works with all staff to develop accomplishments and initiatives to communicate to industry. Writes and distributes regular communications. Coordinates with the industry in crisis communications situations. Develops and manages programs to educate local residents on the value of tourism. Oversees the work of the PR/Marketing Specialist.
Supports partner organizations with production of digital marketing assets as appropriate.
Assigns budget, develops, manages and executes all paid and organic social media marketing programs. Researches various social media marketing opportunities. Determines best opportunities for Leon County. Works with advertising agency and various social entities to initiate programs on department’s website and other vehicles. Monitors social programs to update and manage possible issues.
Develops relevant social media content for use across all platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and future emerging services. Directs photography and video elements for use in paid and organic social media posts. Review established KPIs and recommends adjustments to the strategy as needed. Creates and shares digital content for County produced concerts/events held at The Adderley Amphitheater. Coordinates with production and promotional staff (Carswell) to have consistency of visuals and messaging across all social platforms.
Develops and manages all communications and publications. Writes copy, edits and researches data as needed for all communications and publications. Develops and produces monthly e-newsletters targeting consumer, industry, outdoor and promotional marketing segments. Writes copy, edits, and manages contract to produce Meeting Planner Guide and Visitor’s Guide.
Writes, edits and reviews staff presentations for consistency, clarity and conciseness of voice. Assists Sales team staff to generate branded written and visual content for use across the VisitTallahassee.com website, social media, partner emails and promotional opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of the tourism industry. Knowledge of public relations and Social Media and its best practices. Excellent verbal communication and writing skills including a command of grammar, usage and vocabulary. Knowledge of destination marketing organizations. Strong attention to detail and proofreading. Experience with media relations. Familiarity with the local area including accommodations, attractions and other amenities. Excellent organizational skills required. Desktop publishing skills and competency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Microsoft Office applications a plus. Creative and detailed oriented with excellent time management strategies. Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Ability to operate with the highest ethical standards.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK
Employee must be able to operate in an independent manner when on the road at consumer/trade shows and conferences or when conducting marketing events or media FAM Tours and must be able to use independent judgement in situations which may not fall within established procedures.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Frequent internal contact with department staff. Considerable external contact with industry stakeholders, agency, community stakeholders and customers.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED
Computer and various software programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work will be mainly indoors at a desk or at a event or conference. There will be some setup requirements at conference travel shows and on-site activations. There will also be some outside work during Media FAM Tour site inspections the destination.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field and a minimum of three years of experience in tourism; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prior Destination DMO/CVB experience is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred.
Necessary Special Requirements
A valid Florida Driver’s License and a favorable driving record where appropriate.
Selection Guidelines
Formal application, rating of education and experience, oral interview, reference check and drug testing.
FLSA STATUS: Administrative Exemption. Employee exercises discretion and independent judgment with regard to matters of significance, such as, but not limited to managing the marketing communications functions of Tourism Development, creating content, developing communication programs and promotional events.
