Director of Administration - Parks
Department: Parks
Full-time, Hybrid
Salary Range: $94,889.60 - $140,545.60/yr
Job Summary
Provides direction and management of the administrative functions of the Parks department to include finance, contracts, safety, security and training, and marketing. Responsible for maintaining communications and coordination with all other Milwaukee County administrative and financial functions such as Comptroller, Administrative Services, and Treasury. Provides department-wide leadership for strategic initiatives.
Schedule: Regular business hours with occasional nights and weekends as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Budget and Finance Management - Provide oversight and direction to the finance section; oversee financial practices and ensure that accounting standards are met; produce and manage an annual budget that meets the priorities and obligations of the Parks and Milwaukee County.
- Contract Management and Compliance - Provide oversight and direction to the Contract Services Manager to ensure fair, consistent, and beneficial agreements between the Parks department and its partners. Participate in negotiations and make recommendations to the director.
- Marketing and Communication - Provide oversight and direction to the marketing section to ensure effective implementation of marketing strategies to increase public awareness of amenities and services to engage the public and increase revenue; provide effective corporate communication and public information.
- Public and Staff Safety and Security - Provide oversight and direction to Safety, Security and Training staff to ensure quality educational opportunities are provided to staff. Ensure effective public/staff safety campaigns are implemented, risk is minimized or eliminated, and assets are protected.
- Liaison to Administrative Functions - Provide direct communications and representation between the Parks department and all other administrative functions at Milwaukee County including accounting, budgeting, information technology, procurement, and auditing.
- Personnel Management - Recommend hiring of Administration division staff. Provide guidance and direction for job assignments, provide performance appraisals and workforce development opportunities. Establish priorities to ensure the success of the division and the department's strategies.
- Planning and Leadership - Provide assistance and leadership to department-wide planning initiatives including strategic planning, long-term planning, and project planning efforts.
- Special Assignments and Projects - Participate on special project teams and community outreach efforts.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 20 lbs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, License/Certification And Experiences
- Valid Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Administration, Parks & Recreation, Finance or closely related field required
- Five (5) years or more of work experience in Government, Public Administration, Park Operations or Finance required
- Five (5) years or more of work experience in a Supervisory, Management or Director role required
- Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required
Preferred Education, License/Certification And Experiences
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred
- Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- Previous experience in strategic, comprehensive and business planning preferred
- Previous work experience in government preferred
