GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The purpose of this job is to perform intermediate protective service work in driving fire apparatus, operations of fire pumps and suppression.This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Maintains, services, drives and operates fire equipment, performs fire suppression and related duties.
- Assumes primary responsibility for the servicing and maintenance of fire equipment.
- Conducts residential and commercial life safety and fire hazard inspections.
- Operates pumps and apparatus at fire scene; regulates water pressure to insure required pressure at nozzle.
- Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment and cleaning fire station and grounds.
- Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual technical study and attendance at schedule drills and classes.
- May serve as acting Captain, if approved by their respective Captains and Battalion Chief.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Education And Experience & Special Requirements
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent and formal firefighting training with three (3) years of experience in firefighting and one (1) year as a driver or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
