Job Summary
Imagine working in a beautiful city with an ideal climate and a daily view of the ocean. City of Pismo Beach is recruiting for Part-Time Visitor Information Center Hosts.
The ideal candidate will work well independently, be self-motivated, professional, and provide excellent customer service to residents and visitors. This position will work in multiple locations including the airstream located on the pier, the Chapman Estate, as well as with the Tourism Department on large-scale events. Candidates must be able to take direction and work a variety of functions including basic administrative tasks, frequent contact with the public, and event setup and take down.
This position will work approximately 15-19 hours per week.
Under general supervision of the Conference & Visitor's Bureau, greet, receive and provide accurate and helpful information to all visitors while exceeding their expectations with high quality guest services; assist in assigned projects related to City events; act as a liaison between visitors, local business, and the City of Pismo Beach; send and receive mail; restock brochures; perform clerical tasks and related work as required. The Visitor Information Center is open 7 days a week. Hours of operation vary.

- Serve as an ambassador to the City of Pismo Beach by greeting guests, answering questions, and providing quality customer service.
- Work with the CVB staff promoting local events
- Ensure visitor information publications are well stocked in the brochure racks.
- Respond to visitor inquiries and resolve issues on the phone and in person.
- Initiate conversations with visitors, answer questions and empathize and thank visitors.
- Plan, organize and implement all activities of the visitor's center
- Assist the tourism team by assembling information packets for individual visitors, refer industry tour and group information requests and assist in other areas/projects as requested by CVB staff.

Knowledge Of:
- Customer Service: Works with customers to provide information or assistance and exceed their expectations.
- Communication: Have excellent listening skills, verbal communication, and people skills, meaning the ability to initiate conversation, answer questions, and respond to visitor comments and be able to resolve issues in person and on the phone.
- Greets guests to determine the purpose of their visit in order to direct them to the proper person or location. Speaks to civic organizations, schools, and other groups in order to provide insight on the City's functions. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively via in person, in writing, and by telephone, in a prompt, courteous and service-oriented manner.
Ability to:
- Plan and organize itineraries for an excellent visitor experience.
- Work with various computer software programs and have basic computer literacy.
Supplemental Information
Any Combination Of Training And Experience That Would Provide The Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Is Qualifying. A Typical Way To Obtain The Required Qualifications Would Be:
- Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license.
- Possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. and at least one year of experience involving frequent public contact and customer service in a visitor-serving business. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
