The Multimedia Designer is responsible to perform skilled professional work in designing and producing promotional, informational, and public relations materials including publications, exhibits, signage, web pages, videos, podcasts, and specialty items; makes recommendations in the production of appropriate materials for use in a variety of departmental and City programs.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The Supplemental Questionnaire is used as a Training and Experience Exam (Weighted 100%). In addition to the City of Modesto employment application, applicants must complete and submit onlineresponses to the supplemental questionnaire and a digital portfolio. Only the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date will become candidates and their supplemental questionnaire will be rated and scored. This exam will evaluate the relevance, level, and progression of a candidate's education, training and experience. Therefore, your responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough and complete because the exam score will determine your ranking on the eligible list for this position. Essential Functions:
Develop, write, edit, design, and produce various communication materials including newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, public service announcements, monthly utility bill inserts, press releases, articles, multi-media presentations, correspondence, reports, speeches, videos, podcasts and special publications.
Confer and coordinates with staff, contractors, and vendors to produce appropriate materials within budget and timeline constraints for use in various City programs and events.
Design and implement materials for public relations, public outreach, and education communication, media programs, and marketing for various City departments.
Photograph or video record pertinent sites and/or subject matter for presentation to the public; write, edit, review, and proof copy for printed materials and exhibits.
Design and coordinate video presentations using script-writing techniques; assist in developing content for the production of video, audio, and commercial artwork for a variety of print, online, and multimedia publications and work products.
Receive, coordinate, design, and process social media requests from various City departments.
Maintain the content of the City's website and social media channels ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality by coordinating the resources of various departments.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to City-wide internal and external brand styles and guidelines.
Review graphic artwork from various departments to assure adherence to City public information style guidelines.
Assist in the planning and organization of event logistics with public and private sector agencies, business, and community groups.
Confer with departments on initiatives, programs, and projects; provide guidance and direction regarding strategic communication planning and implementation.
Serve on various committees and represent the City at public meetings or community events as required.
Ensure all digital content produced is compliant with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) guidelines.
Respond to inquiries and requests for information from the media, government agencies, City staff, and members of the public.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.
Marginal Functions:

Write, edit, design, photograph and video record.
Use computer graphic systems and software to create publications and communications.

Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Experience and Training Guidelines:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience:
Two years of experience in graphic design with one year of experience in video and podcast production desirable. Related public sector experience is highly desirable
Training:
Equivalent to an associate's degree from an accredited college with major course work in graphics design, artwork, communications, marketing or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
