The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects. Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools. We have excellent opportunities for Architects who are responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
Responsibilities include:
•Provide overall architectural coordination for projects; perform and/or supervise the preparation of scope, pre- schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents, including reports, drawings and specifications. Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors and various government agencies
•May direct lower-level Architects or Engineers, Quality Assurance Specialist, Technical Inspectors, Associate Architects/Engineers and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, working on several less complex design projects, up to and including small primary schools, partial modernizations, additions, leased space planning and Capital Improvement Projects.
•Conduct site observations, prepare field reports, assist in the preparation of punch lists and supervise the review of contractor's submittals
•Ensure compliance to codes, standards, and that the project is completed on schedule; resolve any problems that occur.
•Perform design review of projects; assist in preparing new design standards and procedure; mentor and trains staff.
•May be required to sign, seal and file drawings and sign and seal other documents
•Participate in cross-studio/division seminars and training workshops; review and check studio/division projects for quality control; participate in employee performance evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications:
All levels require a valid New York State registration as an Architect and a Baccalaureate degree; plus.
Level B requires: Three years full time paid experience as a Registered Architect, two years of which must be as a project architect; project, team, or squad leader; or comparable level of responsibility.
Level C requires: Six years full time paid experience as a Registered Architect, three years of which must be as a project architect; project, team, or squad leader; or comparable level of responsibility.
Salary dependent upon experience:
Level – A: $80,691.00 - $125,803.00
Level – B: $94,242.00 - $146,870.00
Level – C: $99,422.00 - $161,531.00
