Position Description:
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of duties in response to fire, medical and other emergency calls for the protection of life, property and environment; to render emergency medical response and Advanced Life Support; to maintain and operate a variety of firefighting, emergency medical and fire station equipment; to participate in fire prevention, public education, disaster preparedness and training activities and to perform a variety of related duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Under administrative direction, directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Kiowa Fire District including fire suppression, fire prevention, code enforcement, emergency medical services, and related services and activities; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Fire Chief.
This position as needed also regularly performs the duties of a Paramedic/Firefighter, Engineer, Company Officer and/or other job functions. As a small combination agency we rely on all of our staff to be able to fill any job function within the agency as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Colorado Paramedic or Nationally Registered Paramedic eligible for Colorado certification
· Colorado Firefighter I Certification or equivalent training
· Colorado Hazardous Materials Operations Certification or equivalent training
· BLS, ACLS
· ICS 100 and 200 (ICS 300 and 400 within 6 months of hire)
· NIMS 700 and 800
· 3 Years of emergency services experience
· 1 year of management or supervisory experience
· Must live within a reasonable distance from the Kiowa Fire District, to be determined by the Chief.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Five years of emergency services experience
· 3 years of management or supervisory experience
· Knowledge of the Denver Metro EMS Protocols
· Experience in a volunteer or mostly volunteer organization
· General knowledge of computer systems and records management systems
· Knowledge of Communications systems and radio programming techniques.
· Instructor experience and certifications preferred
About the Kiowa Fire District:
The Kiowa Fire District provides fire and EMS services to 324 square miles of rural Elbert County Colorado. We have a resident population of about 3500 people and answer about 600 calls per year. Our response staff currently includes about 20 volunteers, 1 full-time EMT/Firefighter, 2 full-time Paramedic/FF’s, 6 part-time Paramedics and 1 full-time Fire Chief who also acts as a Paramedic. Additionally, we employ a part-time Admin/Finance Officer who serves as the secretary to the Board of Directors.
