Hiring Range: $55,122 - $77,171
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for routine technical work in enforcing compliance with City electrical, building and plumbing codes and ordinances regulating zoning, health and safety
Functions And Duties
- Interpret and establish policy in the coordination of the Building Department.
- Enforce compliance with the Utah Building Code and all other applicable codes.
- Perform on-site inspections of footings, foundations, framing, swimming pools, trusses, insulation, drywall, etc.
- Examine general framing and structure of buildings to insure that corners are tied in place, that trusses are tied down and set at proper distances, that floor joists are set at right distances and proper spans, and that bridging is put up and in place, and that the general quality and grade of lumber used in construction is standard.
- Maintain records of building and inspection activity, and complete related reports.
- Assist in researching problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction and code compliance.
- Respond to complex and sensitive building issues.
- Helps with other duties around the office as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED. College courses in architectural engineering or technical instruction in building technology, construction management, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building construction preferred.
- Must be an I.C.C Certified Building Inspector in residential or commercial.
- Must be licensed with the State of Utah as a Limited Building Inspector within 60 days of employment.
- Valid Utah State Driver License.
Experience
- Four (4) years' experience. Any other combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the work may be considered.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code and the National Electrical Code; considerable knowledge of current construction methods, materials, tools and equipment.
- Must be able to learn and use plan review software.
- Ability to interpret maps, plans engineering drawings and architectural renderings.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, developers, owners, architects, engineers, supervisors, employees, elected officials.
