Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, position may involve working extended hours, evenings and weekend, and responding to customer issues.   Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services.  Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

This posting is part of an Evergreen recruitment. What is an Evergreen recruitment? A recruitment in which we need a larger volume of candidates to fill multiple vacancies across all City departments. It will be posted for an extended time, so that we can draw from the pool of applicants as needed.

This Evergreen recruitment may be utilized to fill current and future Building Service Representative vacancies in all City Departments to include full time, part time, temporary, and/or contract. This position may be posted again as the applicant pool is depleted or exhausted. The initial review of applications will occur on February 24, 2025, and periodically thereafter. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the maintenance, repair, and remodeling of City-owned and leased buildings.
  • Coordinates with building maintenance staff that involves HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and custodial services.
  • Oversees the physical safety and security of all City buildings and ensures servicing of fire extinguishers; manages centralized key system and works with Fire Marshall and building managers in developing, maintaining, and updating evacuation and emergency plans; coordinates M.S.D.S material safety data sheets for the Public Works and Facilities Department.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and oversees projects with contractors regarding elevator services, fire extinguisher services, fire sprinkler services, custodial services, pest control, generator services, overhead doors, copier contract, online auction, and shipping and receiving; completes and files service records and delivers interdepartmental mail when necessary.
  • Performs scheduling of contractors with maintenance staff, inspects completed work, and resolves issues.
  • Participates in routine capital improvement projects; gathers specifications and material cost estimates for building projects; inputs requisitions and fills out request for payment forms.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED AND four (4) years of experience in facility operations is required. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.

Licenses/Certification(s)

Valid driver’s license is preferred.  If applicable, position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies.   

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of facility operation; various building maintenance trades; principles, practices, methods and techniques of skilled building maintenance and repair; purchasing rules and regulations; basic carpentry, painting and plumbing; principles, practices, techniques, activities, rules, and regulations related to the operations and functions of the position and services provided; current principles of record keeping and records management; principles and practices of effective research methods and data analysis, customer service, and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools, materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; business and personal computers and related software applications; City organization, operations, policies, and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
