The City of Vacaville is seeking highly motivated and dependable individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments to join our Public Safety Communications Team as
Public Safety Dispatcher Trainees. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for future vacancies in this classification that may occur over the next 12-month period.

Our Communications Center is overseen by 1 Communications Manager, 4 Communications Supervisors, and 19 Public Safety Dispatchers. Public Safety Dispatcher Trainee Salary Range: $70,255.73 - $73,954.30/annually

About You
The Ideal Candidate:
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills in order to work effectively across all City departments, all levels of employees and other law enforcement agencies, as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Typical duties and responsibilities of a City of Vacaville Public Safety Dispatcher include:
- receiving and responding to routine and emergency calls
- referring callers to appropriate agencies
- providing general information to the public
- assigning calls to Police and Fire units
- dispatching units expeditiously and as necessary

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: One year of clerical experience involving public contact. Some work experience in a public safety agency is desirable.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Successful completion of the California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course is required within 12 months of hire and is a condition of passing probation.

- Attach a copy of a valid T-SCORE of 50 or above from a POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery (POST Dispatcher Test) taken within the past 12 months to proceed through the examination process. If you do not possess a valid T-score, applicants may contact The Academy, South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Center (www.theacademy.ca.gov), or other local law enforcement agencies and/or basic training academies to determine if they are administering the POST Dispatcher Test. Additional information about the test may be obtained by visiting the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) website at www.post.ca.gov.

Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits (including CalPERS membership), and do not accrue leave time with the exception of state mandated sick leave (40 hours per year).
Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacaville's retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.
