Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Internal Services Director, performs duties related to the planning, scheduling, maintenance, and supervision of recreational and athletic activities for various age and interest groups. Employee will also assist with operation and management of the Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center and City Beach Park Splash Pad.
Typical Duties:
1. Must be able to plan, organize, coordinate, and schedule all adult and youth athletic leagues and tournaments in a professional manner.
2. Plan, organize, and supervise classes, special events, and other activities that may require coordination with schools, colleges, or other organizations.
3. Schedule facilities, take reservations, collect fees, and write receipts.
4. Schedules umpires, referees, and other officials.
5. Communicate and coordinate with other City personnel to assure availability of, and proper preparation and maintenance of, athletic fields and facilities.
6. Ability to use computer and related software for preparation of reports, schedules, etc.
7. Ability to coordinate and plan various events and activities simultaneously.
8. Promote and market recreational activities and opportunities.
9. Must be courteous and professional when dealing with the public and be able to handle upset and irate citizens.
10. Explain and defend City or departmental policies to the general public and other City departments in a professional manner.
11. Maintain inventory of all equipment and supplies.
12. May be required to attend board and committee meetings to represent the city.
13. Perform aquatics facilities water chemistry tests, adjustments, and record keeping.
14. Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision.
· Ability to understand and interpret written rules and regulations.
· Ability to deal effectively with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
· Must be flexible to work evening hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
· May supervise and train other employees or volunteers.
· Have or ability to obtain CPR, First Aid certification.
· All other duties as may be required or assigned.
· College degree in a field related to recreation, physical education or a similar field.
· Any verifiable combination of education, training, or experience that would lead to the ability to properly perform the required functions.
· Ability to communicate (read, write, and speak) effectively in the English language.
· Must hold (or obtain within six (6) months of employment) acceptable pool operation/management training certification through completion of one of the following courses or their equivalent:
a) The NPRA, “Aquatic Facility Operator” (A.F.O.)
b) The NSPF, “Certified Pool Operator” (C.P.O.)
c) YMCA, “Pool Operator On Location” (P.O.O.L.)
d) The NSPI, “Professional Pool & Spa Operator (P.P.S.O.)
e) The ASPCA, “Licensed Aquatic Facility Technician” (L.A.F.T.)
· Must hold (or obtain within two (2) months of employment) certification by completing a food handlers course accredited by the State of Texas
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to walk from facility to facility on surfaces that may be soft or uneven
- Ability to climb ladders, step stools and reach overhead
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, push, pull, stoop, squat, kneel and twist to perform job functions
Work Environment:
Work may be performed indoors in climate-controlled facilities and outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes. Employee must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate demand for services. Evenings, weekends, and holidays may sometimes be required. Duties involve some physical exertion, including standing, bending, stooping, walking, working with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds (boxes of flyers, recreation equipment, etc.)
