This internship will assist the Port’s Community Relations team in the execution of the Port’s summer outreach activities. This position will engage and educate the public about the Port through a variety of events including public tours and booths at select public festivals and events. In support of the Community Affairs Manager and Community Affairs Specialist, assist in the implementation of high-profile external Port programs and special events (e.g., receptions, ribbon cuttings, open houses, Touch-a-Truck etc.). 
 
This internship is expected to start on or around June 1st for up to 3 months. 
 
Hours will be Monday-Friday, 10-20 hours a week between 8 am and 5 pm. The ability to periodically participate in events outside normal office hours (8 am – 5 pm, M-F) is required.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited school, college or university. Coursework and interest in communications, public affairs, marketing, community development, public administration and related fields is preferred.

Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. Interpersonal skills that enable the formation of trusting relationships, to handle delicate situations with tact and diplomacy, to express enthusiasm and creativity and a strong customer/public service attitude are a must. This position requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, the ability to anticipate and plan for potential contingencies, an ability to multi-task, and a positive attitude. This individual must relish accomplishing goals through collaborative team efforts.

The successful candidate must possess (or obtain within 30 days of employment) a valid driver's license. Candidate must be able to successfully complete a background investigation. Candidate must also be able to obtain/maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), which is a program managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Unless altered by an applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or by a written employment agreement signed by an employee and the Executive Director, the conditions of employment for this position are ‘at-will’, which means that either the Port or an employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason not prohibited by law.
