The Broward County Facilities Management Division provides program and administrative management of the operation, repair, minor renovation and capital maintenance of over 200 County-owned facilities and properties, as well as parking and security operations. The Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance oversees the planning, management, and coordination of the operational activities of the Division; assists and advises Division administration on various aspects of facility and systems development including budgetary, personnel, building management operations, security operations, and all requirements for adherence to established policies and procedures. The Assistant Director plans, coordinates, and implements cost-effective facility operations and maintenance programs; supervises subordinate managerial and supervisory staff; coordinates divisional budgets, purchasing, personnel, and recordkeeping activities; makes budgetary recommendations and assists in the preparation of the divisional budget; interprets and makes recommendations concerning changes in established policies and procedures; confers with County officials, tenants, contractors, vendors, and the general public regarding Division operations; attends public meetings; and serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Division Director.
General Description
Assists in coordinating, directing and planning the operations of the Facilities Management Division.
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in business administration, engineering, planning, or closely related field.
Requires (6) six years considerable experience in the administration and planning of facilities operations, systems and procedures or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
A valid Florida Class E Driver's License is required for duration of appointment.
Preferences
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, engineering, planning, public administration or closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA)
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
- Building Owners and Management Association (BOMA) or International Facilities Management Association (IFMA)
- Supervisory experience in a unionized environment
- At least four (4) or more years of experience with government contracts and procurement
- At least four (4) or more years of experience using a computerized maintenance management/work order system (AIM)

Duties And Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Assists in coordinating, directing and planning the operations of the Facilities Management Division; assists and advises division administration on various aspects of facility and systems development including budgetary, personnel, building management operations, security operations, and all requirements for adherence to established policies and principles, and effective programs.
Coordinates, plans, and implements cost analysis and cost-effective programs; coordinates divisional budgets, purchasing, personnel, and recordkeeping activities; makes budgetary recommendations and assists in the preparation of the divisional budget; makes recommendations concerning changes in established policies and procedures; interprets established policies and procedures.
Confers with county officials, contractors, vendors, civic leaders, and the general public regarding divisional operations; addresses public groups; attends professional meetings; serves as acting director in absence of the director.
Plans and directs subordinates in the development of reports and directs others based on the information gathered from those reports.
Performs related work as assigned.
