What You Will Do
- Oversees the operations of the Police Department serving Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare.
- Managing all law enforcement activities such as investigating unusual incidents, suspicious fires, and accidents.
- Leads the department's response to emergencies, conducts investigations and reports on vehicular accidents on Hospital grounds, and oversees fire safety inspections.
- Develops and updates procedures to enhance departmental efficiency, including investigative and arrest techniques, interview procedures, and reporting standards.
- Formulates and enforces policies related to traffic control, parking regulations, contraband enforcement, and mandatory training programs.
- Prepares and manages the department budget, approves expenditures, and represents the department in court proceedings as needed.
- Cultivates positive relationships with other law enforcement agencies and the courts.
- Conducts thorough investigations into criminal offenses and breaches of department protocols, including interviewing suspects and witnesses, scrutinizing relevant records and documentation, and apprehending and arresting offenders when necessary.
- Provides testimony in court proceedings as required.
- Actively participates in various committees such as the Risk Management Committee, Safety Committee, Environmental Committee, and Investigation Review Committee
- Cultivates strong working relationships with department heads, administrative officials, law enforcement agencies, and the courts.
- Remains updated on changes in laws and regulations pertinent to law enforcement.
- Assesses environmental conditions, organizational policies and procedures, and the behavior of staff, patients, and visitors to identify potential risks to their safety, promptly reporting any concerns as necessary.
This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of
#13 on the
E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (Flexible Schedule).
This position is located within our
Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus at
100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.
Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at
Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
Additional Salary / Appointment Information
- Must be able to complete a 4 week (business days Monday-Friday) full time orientation.
- May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
- Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment.
