Examples of Duties
In this fulfilling role, you'll provide essential care, ensuring the comfort, health, and safety of our shelter animals. Responsibilities include feeding, watering, monitoring well-being, and providing specialized care for sick or injured animals. You'll also play a crucial role in maintaining meticulous records, adhering to animal welfare standards, and offering compassionate support to both animals and the public.

Typical Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for an Animal Care Technician. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of six (6) months experience in an animal care environment involving care, handling, and sheltering of animals and/or the performance of related work. Possession of a High School diploma or GED is required. The study of animal science or closely related field courses is desirable.
License/Certificate
Certification and training in the euthanasia of animals by injection is desirable.
Must successfully complete an approved course and obtain a certificate for euthanizing animals by injection within the first year of employment.
Other Requirements:
Must be physically fit to work with animals and be able to lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds.
Must be able to participate with the required City’s Adjusted Workweek Schedule, and work weekends, holidays, and evenings on a rotating shift in order to provide seven day a week coverage for the humane treatment and care for the animals in the shelter.
