This position involves performing skilled technical work, including enforcing zoning ordinances, inspecting properties for compliance with environmental codes, maintaining accurate records, and preparing detailed reports.
We are seeking a candidate with a solid foundation in one or more of the four major trades: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical. *REFERENCES WILL BE CONTACTED AUTOMATICALLY UPON SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION*Performs field inspections and re-inspections of residential, commercial, industrial and public facilities, for safety purposes and to ensure compliance with state codes and local ordinances with building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical codes; and enters inspection results into system.
Enforces state codes for construction in four trade areas that are building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing and advises contractors in interpreting and applying code regulations.
Notifies responsible parties of defects and inspects property again, to determine if corrective actions have been taken.
Issues warnings and stop-work order if necessary, when items do not meet minimum code.
Receives inspection requests and enters information into system.
Reviews plans and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable standards; and issues approval on acceptable plans and specifications.
Review projects with co-workers to set a basis for consistency.
Prepares correspondence advising property owners of violations.
Interprets and explains North Carolina code requirements.
Receives applications for permits and issues building permits.
Maintains records and prepares reports for use by administrative and judicial authorities.
Provides assistance to customers by telephone, email and in person, educating them on code requirements.
Participates in continuing education and certification courses; and stays abreast of changes in applicable codes and ordinances.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the zoning ordinances and various codes.
Knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of ordinances and codes.
Ability to read and interpret permits, site plans and designs and to ensure compliance with appropriate ordinances and codes.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to enforce ordinances and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, contractors, associates and the general public.

Work requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Minimum Education and Experience:High School Diploma or its equivalent, and three (3) years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Licenses or Certifications:- Ability to obtain North Carolina Level 3 Standard building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical certifications
