We are currently seeking: A combination inspector to join our team and inspect structures, installations and systems at residential and commercial buildings and construction sites, in all stages of construction, to assure compliance with applicable state and local regulations and standards.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Inspecting residential and commercial building project plumbing, electrical and or mechanical systems built, altered, or repaired to assure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Reviewing plans and specifications to gain familiarity with the projects prior to inspection.
- Performing field inspections to examine and evaluate the plumbing, electrical/mechanical work performed and materials used; verifying quality of workmanship, quality of materials used, and compliance with plans, specifications, estimates and applicable codes and regulations.
- Noting deficiencies and deviations from plans; referring serious problems and disagreements in interpretation to supervisor.
- Interpreting City International Codes and safety codes and issuing notices of violation; maintaining communications with developers and builders on commercial and residential inspection projects.
- Maintaining and updating inspection records, project documentation and project files.
- Providing customer service; answering questions and concerns related to City adopted codes and safety codes and other requirements by ordinance.
- Investigating citizen complaints and coordinating effective resolution of conflicts and disagreements; interpreting, applying and explaining City codes and regulations.
- Responding to requests for information; providing technical information to City staff as authorized; providing assistance to the public within scope of authority.
- Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements And Skills
- Interpreting and applying statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
- Interpreting building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and zoning regulations, and comparing them with engineering drawings, plans, maps and specifications.
- Detecting deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
- Performing building inspections for compliance with building and safety codes.
- Organizing and managing technical records.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees, officials, construction professionals, other agencies and the general public.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; and two year's journeyman/foreman-level in plumbing and electrical or mechanical or installation experience in general construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses Or Certifications
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
- Must be able to obtain a Plumbing Inspector License from Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) within 3 months of hire. Depending on the needs of the City, incumbent may be required to obtain additional technical certifications; Inspector certifications are preferred.
- Must have completed 500 hours of training and experience in the plumbing industry; or be currently licensed as: a Journeyman Plumber in Texas; a Professional Engineer in Texas; or a Plumbing Inspector in another state that has licensing requirements substantially equivalent to the licensing requirements of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) and obtain a Plumbing Inspectors License through TSBPE within 3 months of hire.
- Prefer completion of Registered Electrical/Mechanical Apprenticeship Training Program, Journeyman Electrician (or equivalent) or Master Electrician, or Mechanical Contractor License BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or PE in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or 8,000 hours as an electrician or mechanical, or 4,000 hours as an electrical or mechanical inspector.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Work is performed in a standard office environment, with frequent visits to outdoor construction sites.

Salary: $53392 per year
