Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities of Forensic Interns will vary based on the intern's field of interest. The goal of the program is to help prepare interns to assume duties in a forensic setting after graduation, by participating in a learning experience under the supervision of an experienced professional. Some academic programs require students to complete a forensic project during their internship. Every effort will be made to facilitate the completion of such a project.

Minimum Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with junior or senior status. Must be majoring in biology, chemistry, physical science or forensic science.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office and Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory has established an internship program, which provides training in a number of forensic program areas such as; Drug chemistry, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Photography, Toxicology, and Trace Evidence Investigation. Interns will also have minor exposure to other forensic disciplines while participating in their specific internship experience. The program will be structured to meet the needs of Forensic Science majors that require an internship as part of their core curriculum and/or students wishing to pursue a career in Forensic Science. The program will provide students a hands on learning opportunity to learn about a variety of technical and best practices in the field of forensic science.

Additional Requirements

In addition, students must further send a resume and cover letter indicating specific area of interest (you may only choose 1 area per application period). Students applying for an internship will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from their program chair or advisor that:

  • Supports their candidacy
  • Confirms the student is in good standing in their program
  • Confirms the student meets all other specified requirements for eligibility.
