This position involves planning, budgeting and implementing all social, civic, recreational, athletic and educational activities as they pertain to a facility. Work is performed under general supervision.

Essential Job Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Oversees and manages diverse, comprehensive recreation center(s)
  • Trains, schedules and supervises designated staff and volunteers; coordinates work activities, prepares performance evaluations and disciplinary action documentation, provides guidance on work related matters and assists to resolve employee issues.
  • Supervises all recreation programming within the center(s) and surrounding facility(s)
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development of long- and short-range recreation programming
  • Prepares, oversees and submits budgets to support all recreation programs at center(s).
  • Supervises the overall operations utilizing available resources and promotes interest in parks and recreation programs through publicity, brochures, flyers and social media
  • Hires, trains, motivates, supervises and evaluates all subordinate staff
  • Prepares staff schedules and organizes workloads and staff assignments
  • Advises and assists clubs, organizations, athletic groups, schools and the general public in meeting criteria for facility use.
  • Advises and assists staff in planning, implementing programs and maintenance of facility(s).
  • Provides reports and records to supervisors as requested.
  • Ensures that City policies and procedures for the welfare and safety of staff and the general public are followed.
  • Maintains inventory and order necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
  • CDL Class B with P endorsements license is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field.
  • Five (5) years administrative and management experience at a recreational facility.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record. Must possess or obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.
  • Knowledge of recreational activities.

Knowledge of athletic field maintenance and court operations and maintenance. Ability to analyze and adjust special activities to the needs and structure of participating groups. Ability to supervise and train others in special activities. Public relations skills. Skills and interests in a number of recreational activities and other specialty areas. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.

A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
