General Description
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation, maintenance and patrol of parks and facilities. Enforces laws, rules and regulations within the assigned area of responsibility, to include ensuring the safety and welfare of parks, facilities, visitors and assigned City staff.
Essential Job Functions

Patrols City parks, facilities and buildings to enforce regulations and policies; observes and reports unusual conditions and safety hazards; contacts law enforcement officials as necessary.
Monitor and inspects the park, its playgrounds, ball fields, shelters, basketball courts, buildings and open spaces to ascertain the need for repairs or maintenance and may repair minor work or submit work orders for repair.
Opens, secures and closes parks and buildings, as necessary.
Raises and lowers flags.
Responsible for reporting any safety concerns.
Responds to facilities where rentals have problems and notify the Director of any suspicious activities.
Responsible for the evening/weekend on-call residents logs in parks.
Performs light maintenance duties and may clear paved areas of debris, branches and other obstructions or requests assistance.
May be asked to supervise park facility in the absence of a recreation aide or supervisor.
May be asked to assist with preparing athletic fields for play, if needed or in emergency situations.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs and events; prepares facilities for recreational use.
Inspects equipment for proper performance and safety; performs equipment maintenance and repair work as necessary.
Prepare periodic and special reports, including daily incident, accident and activity logs.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of County/City ordinances and general park regulations for recreational facilities. Knowledge of the amenities and programs available in the park and facilities within the City of Miami Gardens. Some knowledge of the safety hazards inherent in the use of playground or other facilities and the necessary precautionary measures. Some knowledge of the techniques and equipment of grounds and building maintenance work.
Ability to meet the public effectively to give information regarding park facilities and regulations and to ensure the safety and welfare of visitors. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with the public. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time. Ability to work outdoors under varying temperatures or inclement weather conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform moderately heavy manual labor out-of-doors and occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
Education & Experience Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with two (2) years' experience in parks and recreation, parks maintenance or related field. An equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience may be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment.
