The Social Services Supervisor will work as part of the Social Services Supervisor team. This position will have primary supervision responsibilities over the Family Assessment team and duties. The supervisor is responsible for providing staff supervision of child protection family assessment. The supervisor is responsible for overseeing program operations, collaborating with internal and external partners and stakeholders, and providing system training and outreach. This position assists in the assessment, modification, development, and coordination of Social Services and related programs to ensure delivery of services consistent with mandates and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

NEED TO HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Social Services/Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Corrections/Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavioral Science, or related field;
    AND

  • Four years professional work in a Social Services agency which must include progressive responsibility in tasks or role
    AND

  • Experience with Minnesota child protection system, including working with attorneys, judges, law enforcement, Department of Human Services and other system partners.
    AND

  • Valid driver's license

NICE TO HAVE
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Social Services/Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Corrections/Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavioral Science, or related field.
  •  Experience supervising professional staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Hire and supervise the activities of professional staff in assigned program areas.
2. Consult, coach, and mentor staff in the performance of assigned duties.
3. Provide supervision and ensure cases are complying with best practice and legal mandates.
4. Develop, revise, implement, and provide oversight to policies and procedures, laws, rules and regulations and ensure cases are complying with best practice and legal mandates.
5. Develop, implement, and supervise innovative and effective programs and maintain excellence in service.
6. Evaluate and assess program budget needs, determine and collect data needed, and prioritize requests. Generate program and activity reports, statistics, and program evaluations as needed.
7. Monitor and negotiate contracted services.
8. Inform, present, and promote agency programs and services with various community groups, agencies, or community organizations, and cross system initiatives.
9. Attend, conduct, and participate in unit, department, management, and team meetings.
10. Address problems and complaints and take action to resolve.
11. Work as part of an interdisciplinary supervisory team to implement and integrate programs and services.
12. Provide on-call supervision, as needed.
13. With the Deputy Director and Operations Manager, establish and actuate program philosophy, goals, and objectives.
14. Demonstrates a commitment to support cultural diversity County wide, actively supports the County's inclusion, diversity and equity initiatives, and works to address the needs of diverse and underserved communities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1-14

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment

. Knowledge of Minnesota child protection laws and child protection assessment functions.
. Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to social service programs, particularly child protection, crisis response, mental health crisis assessment, short-term crisis stabilization; and have strong knowledge of community-based resources.
. Knowledge of social services organization, functions, policies, and procedures.
. Knowledge of assessment of mental health, chemical health, adult protection, child protection, and parent/child conflict issues.
. Knowledge of computer software and information systems.
. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
. Ability to problem solve and respond to crisis situations.
.  Ability to use child protection best practices and approaches.
. Ability to work as part of a team and promote collaborative, integrated service delivery.
. Ability to promote and support agency staff in the performance of their job functions.
. Ability to promote, support and maintain an inclusive, equitable and diverse workplace.


WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building. Some travel is required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Some positions may be exposed to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, cell phone, calculator, audio/visual equipment, and copy and fax machines.  Some on-call hours are required of this position.
