The purpose of this position is to be detailed and responsive to public issues within our Parks and Trails System to support our Citizens, City Divisions, Property Owners, and Businesses.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
This position is permanent part-time.
Examples of Duties
Visual Presence/Relationship Building: Patrols designated parks and trails, offering a variety of support services to members of the public; Build relationships with visitors, nearby residents, and other local stakeholders to share information and assist with problem-solving
Collaborate with all divisions within Parks, Recreation, and Special Events, the Spartanburg Police Department, and other departments to implement engagement strategies for the trails and parks
Communicate and act as a liaison for the City and Community.
Litter Collection / Aesthetic Detail: Identify and address removal of litter on trails, rights-of-ways, and within designated parks; remove graffiti and spot clean sidewalks as needed; open and close parks, playgrounds, and restrooms, and other minor job-related maintenance tasks to ensure parks and trails are clean and welcoming
Observe and Report: To ensure a safe and welcoming environment, ambassador will utilize a computer and/or hand-held mobile device to collect data and track daily work activities, triage and communicate with appropriate staff based on activity, be mindful and report hazards, unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to respective staff.
Hospitality and Customer Service: Actively acknowledge, engage, and greet trail users and park visitors; Provide directions, maps, handouts, and information to tourists, visitors, and residents; Constantly canvassing areas to offer support and resources; Receive and document complaints, providing assistance, information, and solutions as needed.
Professionalism: Must maintain a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and overall standards of expected professionalism set by the City of Spartanburg
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
One (1) year of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
South Carolina driver's license.
