Description

Hiring Compensation Range: $20.42 - $23.99 per hour
Full Compensation Range: $20.42 - $27.56 per hour

Under general supervision, processes court payments, citations, certain warrants, court correspondence, data entry, assist customers (in person, by mail and online), and verifies pending and adjudicated cases, and performs other related duties.

Examples of Duties

  • Processes citations by downloading electronically filed citations and manually entering handwritten citations by police officers, making copies and files as required by established procedures.
  • Processes payments to the courts and accurately posts to defendants’ case/citation. 
  • Prepares all monies for accurate deposit along with finance reports (cash, credit, checks, money orders, web payments) daily based on cash handling policies approved by Accounting Department. 
  • Balances cash drawer at close of business day.
  • Processes cases/citations as allowed through court standing orders which will include verifying and auditing pending and adjudicated cases/citations. 
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, including email and online correspondence. 
  • Assists with court session on the day of court and docketed case preparations. 
  • Provides court clerk counter coverage and answer phones to assist court customers and other Town customers as necessary. 
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and Town of Fairview information.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) or more years court experience preferably in municipal court OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  

License and Certification Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain Level I Court Certification within 12 months of employment. 
  • Possession of a valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver's License may be required.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Methods, procedures, and standards for maintaining court and payment records.
  • Quality customer service methods and standards.
  • Municipal organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Principles and practices of management, organization and administration.
  • General office practices and equipment.

Required Skill in:

  • Processing incoming mail and phone calls for the court system.
  • Assuring compliance with regulations governing clerk of the court operations.
  • Utilizing professional customer service skills to identify a potentially volatile customer and diffuse the situation while maintaining workplace standards.
  • Displaying understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others; interacting with people of different social, economic, language (including non-verbal communication) and ethnic backgrounds. 
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and the general public. 
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors in an office setting.  Work is sedentary requiring the ability to remain in a stationary position most of the time. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery is required.  Repetitive finger movement, repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands is required. Frequently communicates with court customers who may be extremely angry, residents or coworkers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to lift and move boxes/objects up to 30 pounds.
