Introduction


The Scottsdale City Attorney's Office is seeking a civil litigation Legal Assistant. The Legal Assistant will provide litigation support to Civil Division attorneys in all aspects of case/matter management including docketing and calendaring; gathering, organizing and maintaining documents; preparing, formatting, and finalizing standard legal documents; and filing documents electronically in state and federal courts. The Legal Assistant may also support civil transactional attorneys, as well as assist with some paralegal duties as time and workload permit. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have at least 3 years of recent civil litigation experience in defense of lawsuits involving personal injury, civil rights and/or employment law.

Anticipated starting salary may be up to midpoint depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary is listed above and the midpoint for this position is $31.63 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent is required.
  • Five years of legal administrative support experience.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares and/or drafts a variety of business and routine legal documents.
  • Files documents in person and/or electronically with local, state, and federal courts.
  • Coordinates and arranges for court reporters, and schedules witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Creates and maintains complex records/files and indexes legal files and documents in electronic and paper format.
  • Assists attorneys and assigned paralegal with various aspects of trial preparation to include organization and marking of exhibits, preparation of trial notebooks and documents, and witness notification.
  • Ensures that deadlines and events are properly calendared and timely filed.
  • Communicates with internal departments and outside agencies/jurisdictions regarding documents requests, scheduling, and gathering information in preparation for trial.

  • Most work is performed in a City office environment.
