The purpose of the student internship/temporary position is to provide opportunities for college students to gain experience in the field of emergency management/public administration. Associates will participate in real-world projects, work inside the Emergency Operations Center during activation, develop plans and procedures for disaster response, and work closely with first response and support agencies.
Essential Functions
Provides customer service, public outreach, and support relating to disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation activities.
Research of potential programs for the office in preparedness and planning.
Support the Persons with Special Need (PSN) program and database management
Research policies and procedures for hospital, healthcare, assisted living facility and nursing home plans.
Development of special event activities to build "culture of preparedness" in the County.
Write and facilitate exercises using Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) criteria. Create after action reports for exercises.
Shelter management plans review and consolidation.
Assist emergency management personnel in responding to emergencies and disasters throughout the County.
Participate in drills throughout Seminole County and the region to build knowledge in emergency management.
Assist the Office of Emergency Management with building relationship between private and public partnerships. Integration of faith-based and non-profit organizations into emergency management response and recovery plans.
Conduct research and technical investigation for mitigation funding to include the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program, Repetitive Flood Claims Program, Floodplain Mitigation Grant Program, Hazard Analysis Grant, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Wind Retrofit Grant, and Shelter Retrofit Grant.
Supports strategic plan for the Division of Emergency Management.
Additional Duties
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be enrolled, or graduated in less than one year, from a higher education organization (university, college, or technical institute).
Additional Requirements
Must be proficient in Business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic, along with modern office practices and procedures, including record keeping methods.
Must be able to compose effective and accurate correspondence.
Must possess the ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers and at all levels of the organization.
Must be skilled in written and verbal communication.
Must be proficient with personal computer and general office equipment such as fax, copier, 10 key calculator, and printers.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and other related software is required.
Persons With Experience In SharePoint Are Preferred.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
