Job Summary:
This position is responsible for sports, event, and facility tourism for the City of Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department. This will be accomplished through planning, marketing, developing, coordinating, and implementing special events and programs to bring awareness and visitation to the City. The position is directly responsible for tourism efforts for the Kerrville parks system and recreation facilities, such as the Sports Complex, Tennis Complex, Kerrville-Schreiner Park, Scott Schreiner Golf Course, and others. This is accomplished by coordinating support staff, program and event planning, managing and marketing programs, and interacting with other city employees and citizens. This position requires a flexible schedule.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Research, develop, prepare, and coordinate consumer related programs, promotions, written materials and electronic marketing concepts to increase tourism and local awareness of the City of Kerrville’s Sports and Recreation and Leisure facilities, activities, and parks system.
2. Works closely, as assigned, with the Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau to maximize tourism efforts for the City to increase overnight hotel and motel stays.
3. Produce programs and special events from conception to completion. Responsible for the organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all aspects of assigned programs and special events. Maximize planning and best practices to ensure success of programs / events including tourism.
4. Assist with department sports, special events, and recreation activities.
5. Coordinate the design and creation of necessary materials to market and promote programs and events to ensure maximum coverage and success.
6. Communicate through written memos, email, and meetings. Issue written and oral instructions; assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
7. Maintain harmony among staff and resolve grievances; adjust errors and complaints.
8. Ability to assist with the development and management of the financial budget for the applicable divisions.
9. Monitor and ensure safety of the participants in programs.
10. Maintain accurate accountability for cash handling.
11. Perform cost analysis for developing new programs / events; prepare accurate financial records, activity reports, and other required documentation as requested.
12. Ability to coordinate programming with schools and organizations to maximize inter-local agreements and contracts.
13. Manage programs and marketing by overseeing staff / equipment / vendors, responding to public inquiries regarding programs, correcting problems and unforeseen issues, and working to provide positive public relations.
14. Plan and assist with department and city-wide special events.
15. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of travel, tourism, marketing principles, practices, and techniques as they pertain to special events, sports, and facilities specific to Kerrville.
· Strong special events and tourism skills.
· Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
· Excellent public speaking skills.
· Excellent computer skills for marketing purposes utilizing MS Office products and graphic design software.
· Ability to effectively plan, organize, and maintain records, implement oral and written policies, and maintain good working relationships with people of all ages.
· Ability to give verbal and physical instructions to program participants.
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor.
· Ability to exercise good judgment and provide technical assistance to assigned staff and other city staff.
· Ability to work with money; adding, subtracting, counting.
· Ability to fill out attendance and accounting reports.
· Ability to operate city vehicles.
· Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to include weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays
· Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Education, Certification and Experience:
· Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation, and/or Tourism or related field is highly preferred.
· Two years of customer service experience with experience in executing special events, athletic programs, and recreation programming.
· Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is light to medium work requiring the successful candidate to lift or carry fifty (50) pounds occasionally and up to twenty (20) pounds frequently to move, lift and push objects. Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle objects. Must be able to stand, walk, and sit up to 1 hour daily. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
