Job Summary:
Receives and responds to underground service locate tickets, locates underground utility lines, and works to improve accuracy on GIS system. Supports utility departments in their normal duties when needed with leak detection and utility locations. Supports GIS technician, City Engineer, and other department requests as needed with utility locations.
Typical Duties:
- Locates water/sewer utility lines and services within the city and state rights-of-way.
- Uses computer to manage underground alert tickets on a daily basis and responds as necessary.
- Serves as a resource to various departments and reports or locates utilities as directed.
- Assists in emergency repairs of utility systems as needed.
- Updates department work orders in regards to locating underground utilities.
6. **Has schedule flexibility and proficiency to work after-hours (typically 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM “Standby” duties) on a rotating basis, if assigned. If assigned, coverage of these additional after-hours duties is compensated for by additional overtime pay and/or compensatory time, according to the approved pay schedule for these assignments.
7. Interacts with utility customers, in tactfully handling problems or answering questions; communicating line locations to property owner or responsible party.
8. Complies with all safety SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) including, but not limited to wearing issued safety equipment.
9. Walks and drives truck over established route to perform locates.
10. Performs work orders as assigned.
11. Performs various other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required.
- Must possess a State of Texas Class “A” CDL Commercial Driver’s License and a safe driving record;
· Ability to read GIS, diagrams, and As-builts accurately and efficiently.
· Ability and attitude necessary for the completion of assignments as directed; requiring follow-through and an attitude in support of teamwork and excellent customer service.
· Familiarity and proficiency in using and trouble-shooting with computer, leak detector, and the associated devices and tools
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions, and to be an independent and pro-active problem solver.
· Must be able to comply with all City of Granbury safety and personnel policy procedures.
· Able to obtain Class “C” Distribution license or Class “C” wastewater license within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment (required training will be provided).
Physical Conditions:
Must be able to bend, climb and squat to perform duties. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have dexterity with fingers and hands to operate hand tools and small equipment. Must be able to see and distinguish colors and color tones; in order to effectively read diagrams and As-builts. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely. Maintain physical condition necessary for walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.
