Responsibilities - What you’ll do
Teaches subject matter appropriate to educational background and certification by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
Instructs adult offenders in state facilities in elementary or secondary school subjects, and related special education work; confers with students regarding their needs/progress/abilities; provides individual instruction/ encouragement as needed
Adheres to state-approved course of study, but is required to exercise considerable ingenuity and flexibility in adapting a program to fit the needs/abilities/conditions distinctive to pupils in a variety of state facilities
Plans/outlines classwork within prescribed limits; assembles and prepares learning materials for special study; administers/scores pre and post tests
Functions as a part of a teaching team; assists in developing/implementing/evaluating individual education plans; participates in teacher conferences/meetings/ educational research projects; maintains scholastic/attendance records; orders necessary supplies and materials
Assigns/reviews work to ascertain that tasks have been performed as directed; receives general supervision from an Education Supervisor/designated administrator, with review primarily for determining adherence to curriculum standards and maintenance of proper discipline; performs other related work as assigned
Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
Current teaching certification in Special Education issued from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.
The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years!
