Description


The City of Richmond’s Department of Economic Development is currently seeking a Marketing Manager  who will be responsible for planning and executing strategic marketing and communications initiatives to promote Richmond, Virginia as: a top destination for businesses.; This position will help generate business attraction, expansion, retention, and commercial development leads, build community partnerships, connect existing businesses to programs that support their growth, and execute marketing-related components of Richmond’s Strategic Plan for Equitable Economic Development (SPEED).

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Continuing to establish and maintain Richmond Economic Development identity and brand
  • Planning and executing marketing events for business prospects, Richmond businesses, and economic development stakeholders
  • Developing, designing, and managing digital and print collateral
  • Managing the Department of Economic Development's social media content, campaigns, and performance
  • Managing Richmond Economic Development web presence (Richmondeda.com) and ensuring that Richmond leverages best-in-class technology and tactics to generate traffic and leads from digital marketing efforts
    • Activities include managing vendors, developing new features and content, providing timely updates of content, and ensuring the proper connection between web and social channels
  • Overseeing the creation of new photo and video assets and managing existing assets to ensure visual presence is vibrant, current, and authentically Richmond
  • Creating slide decks for prospect meetings, City leadership, and community and business groups
  • Assisting with business investment proposal creation, presentation materials, and marketing trip preparation
  • Developing measures and maintaining data on key performance indicators on digital, print, and event marketing efforts, adjusting tactics to optimize for results, and developing materials to communicate results
  • Working with subject matter experts, preparing, writing, editing, and distributing press/news releases, talking points, FAQs, blogs, and articles that promote Richmond's economic development efforts, industry sectors, the business community, redevelopment projects, and other special projects. Communicating with media outlets to support economic development goals
  • Negotiating and implementing promotions and sponsorships to support business attraction and retention programs
  • Serving as primary point of contact and project manager with external marketing vendors and consultants

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, public affairs, journalism, marketing, or directly related field
  • Three years of public communications and/or marketing experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three years of marketing experience in an economic development, real estate, business improvement district, tourism, or other place-based marketing environment.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
TYPICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: These are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.

  • Marketing and communications principles and theories, to include concepts, strategies and tactics

The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, push, pull, lift, feel, and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. The working conditions may contain environmental hazards, depending on area of focus. This class may involve on-call availability. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
