Requirements

Georgetown University Police Department’s mission is to protect the Georgetown University community, ensuring a safe and secure learning and living environment through trusting partnerships and professional police services. The Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) provides security and police services on the Georgetown University Main and Medical Center campuses and off campus properties. Utilizing foot patrols, vehicles and bicycles, the officers patrol the campus twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Duties

The Deputy Chief represents and acts for the Chief in their absence. Under administrative direction, the incumbent has additional duties that include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, organize, and direct the day-to-day operations of the department, reporting to the Chief for operational matters.
  • Directly and indirectly supervise the Captain, Lieutenants, Watch Commanders, and other Sergeants assigned by the Chief.
  • Indirectly monitor supervision of Security Officers, Police Officers, Police Detectives, Student Guard Manager, and Communications Staff.
  • Work the primary hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm, working from 3:30pm to Midnight and from 11:30pm to 8:00am or at unusual hours and times designated by the Chief.

GUPD provides a full range of law enforcement services in support of the academic and public service missions of Georgetown University, serving a diverse community of more than 13,000 students and 6,000 faculty & staff. In addition to the traditional role of a police department, GUPD carries out a variety of proactive educational, outreach and crime prevention programs. We deliver professional and high-quality services with sensitivity to the unique concerns of the University community. GUPD employs approximately 73 sworn police officers, 7 full time civilian employees and 50 part-time students.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required
  • Twelve (12) years of general police experience; Eight (8) years of which must be supervisory/managerial with at least five (5) years of supervision higher than that of lieutenant or equivalent position
  • 5 years in higher education law enforcement preferred

Technical Qualifications Or Specialized Certifications

  • Ability to analyze crime patterns and make determinations as to deployment of personnel to effectively combat the crime problems (eg: police vehicles, foot patrols, and undercover offices)
  • Comprehension of Clery Act and Title IX
  • Ability to develop tactical and strategic plans to meet the department needs consistent with University needs

Pay Range

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$66,783.00 - $126,720.23

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
