Position Summary
The City Manager is appointed by the City Council and is responsible for implementing policies and procedures, overseeing city departments, and ensuring efficient municipal operations. As the chief executive and administrative officer, the City Manager supervises all city personnel (except the City Attorney and Municipal Judge) and represents the city at regional, state, and federal functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute City Council policies effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee city operations by managing departments, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring smooth service delivery.
- Supervise city personnel (excluding City Attorney and Municipal Judge).
- Develop and manage the city budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Ensure legal compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Represent Brookfield in governmental and community engagements.
- Maintain strong community relationships by addressing public concerns and fostering collaboration.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage teams and work with elected officials.
- Financial management expertise in a government setting.
- Experience in public policy, program evaluation, and strategic planning.
- Negotiation skills to resolve complex community and governmental issues.
- HR management experience, including staff development and performance evaluation.
- Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in city governance.
Work Hours & Benefits
City Managers work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and may travel for conferences and government meetings.
