Summary

The Valley County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is recruiting for a detail-oriented and highly organized part-time Legal Assistant to provide essential administrative support in a fast-paced legal environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and computer skills, maintain strict confidentiality, and demonstrate a commitment to public service. This role offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the administration of justice within our community.

As this position is part-time, it is limited to no more than 19½ hours per week and is not eligible for employee benefits.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

The Legal Assistant will organize, maintain, and update physical and electronic case files, prepare and file legal documents, including motions, subpoenas, and court orders, and track deadlines and ensure timely filing of documents. The incumbent will also assist with the preparation of trial exhibits and materials, schedule court appearances and maintain the court calendar, and coordinate with court personnel, law enforcement, and other agencies. Additionally, the incumbent will answer and direct phone calls, emails, and other inquiries, draft and prepare correspondence and legal documents, perform general office duties, such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing, and maintain office supplies and equipment.

Typical Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, certification as a legal secretary, and experience in providing legal administrative support.  Excellent writing skills are essential as the success of an incumbent in this position is dependent upon their writing abilities.  Any knowledge of legal, court, and judicial procedures, rules, terminology, methods, documents, practices, and objectives is also desired.  Additionally, good writing and verbal communication skills, knowledge of standard office equipment – including computers and office software packages, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects is required.
