King County Metro, the largest transit agency in the northwestern U.S., seeks to hire two Creative Marketing Chiefs. In this role, the selected candidates will each (1) ensure prospective riders discover and choose public transportation; (2) improve the experience of our existing riders; and (3) coach our hardworking and talented creative/marketing team.

Serving a county with a population larger than 15 U.S. states, Metro provides bus, paratransit, vanpool, water taxi, and on-demand services, and operates the Seattle Streetcar, Sound Transit Link light rail and Sound Transit Express bus service. The agency’s national honors include Best Large Transit Agency in North America (American Public Transportation Association, three times–most recently in 2018) and Most Equitable Agency in Tackling Climate Change (Federal Transit Administration, 2022).

The official King County classification for both positions is Transit Chief - Marketing and Service Information. This recruitment may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to fill future career service vacancies that may occur in the next six months.

Job Duties

  • Develop and execute creative and marketing strategies to drive engagement and strengthen the Metro brand.
  • Manage and mentor the creative and marketing teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Build relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, collaborating regularly to create content that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Leverage data insights to inform decision-making, optimizing creative and marketing strategies for improved performance.
  • Coordinate and oversee creative and marketing projects across teams, ensuring timely delivery and proactive issue resolution.
  • Assist in budget planning and tracking for creative and marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall organizational goals and coordination with other teams.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

We would like to hear to you if you have:

  • Five or more years of experience developing and leading creative marketing strategies from concept to deployment.
  • Three or more years managing teams and fostering collaboration.
  • Expertise in crafting engaging creative marketing strategies for diverse audiences, using data to optimize campaigns, track performance and inform decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience working with internal teams and external collaborators.
  • Demonstrated success in project management, overseeing budgets, timelines and the delivery of large-scale campaigns.


Highly competitive candidates may also have:

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Proficient in a language in addition to English.

Work Schedule 

This hybrid role involves a mix of remote work and on-site responsibilities, with an expectation of being in the office for meetings, tasks, and assignments as needed. This position is not covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is ineligible for overtime pay. Work schedule is normally Monday through Friday, 40-hour work week. Variations may be required depending on the demands and training needs of the work.

This position is represented by ProTec17 union.  

Work Location

The incumbent will have a hybrid work schedule and may work remotely and onsite. The primary onsite location is King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson Street, Seattle, Washington.

Teleworking Requirement

The work associated with this position is currently being performed in a hybrid fashion including teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Frequency of onsite work will vary based on business and operational needs. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
