Nature and Variety of Work

The individual will be responsible for delivering comprehensive paralegal support to the Civil Coordinating Judge. This role involves assisting with case management, legal research, and the preparation of documents necessary for court proceedings. The incumbent will work closely under the guidance of the paralegal supervisor to ensure efficient case processing. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of civil law procedures are essential for success in this position.

Examples of Work

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following

  • Monitors the court's compliance with time standards for civil cases.
  • Reviews and processes routine civil motions.
  • Performs basic manual and automated research in reviewing civil cases.
  • Drafts pleadings and associated legal documents and memoranda related to civil cases.
  • Assists with special projects under the Civil Coordinating Judge's or Paralegal Supervisor's direction.
  • Develops and maintains legal files, accounts, and records.
  • Regularly communicates with attorneys regarding case status.
  • Explains various legal procedures and court functions to litigants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate of Arts Degree in Social Science or Paralegal studies at an accredited college or university; or three (3) years of experience performing paralegal/legal assistant work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Basic court rules concerning legal processes, timelines of processing cases, and documentation.
  • Legal research techniques will include standard legal reference materials.
  • Methods and techniques of preparing legal documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment, including computers and assigned software.
  • Performs a variety of comprehensive legal and legislative research tasks and analyses.
  • Interpret applicable federal, state, and county codes, regulations, and statutes.
  • Prepares a variety of legal documents clearly and concisely.
  • Conducts legal research in a variety of areas.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records and files.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
