The Paratransit Coordinator is in charge of the DOT program, provides curb-to-curb service for people with disabilities who cannot use regular fixed-route transit. This person provides technical assistance to the process of bidding out contracts for the provision of paratransit services among various service providers. The Paratransit Coordinator is the primary interface between the contractors and DOT users and resolves any disagreements consistent with the City’s and individual’s interests. The person will provide information about the program to citizens and will conduct the certification process for any new potential DOT users. Must be comfortable using an automated database of certified clients, and a web-enabled, call-intake system provided by Route Match software. This person will represent the City in meetings related to providing transportation for people with disabilities both locally and regionally. The Paratransit Coordinator will develop various new means to monitor the service and to make transit for people with disabilities more effective and efficient.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
One year of experience in general transit planning and marketing and/or delivery of ridesharing, transit, or paratransit services; and completion of college-level course work in transportation, business, or public administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Transportation, or Business Administration. Must possess some knowledge of and experience in providing transportation services to people with disabilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Must be organized and able to communicate with all people in a clear, sensitive manner, both orally and in writing. Good analytical abilities and ease of working with all basic office software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, and be able to learn new software quickly. Knowledge of dispatch and call-intake software for demand-responsive services. Knowledge of taxicab operations. Public speaking ability - willingness to attend meetings outside of the normal work hours.
