Commerce City seeks a dynamic Housing Planner to coordinate innovative, affordable housing initiatives that align with City Council's goals. This grant-funded position is key in advancing housing affordability by implementing affordable housing projects, managing housing grant programs, and developing partnerships with housing providers and developers. The Housing Planner will create and oversee affordability policies, analyze housing opportunities, pursue funding sources, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance and success in meeting the City's housing needs. This position is 100% grant-funded for two (2) years.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,944.67 - $101,049.63 / Annually

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, real estate finance, public administration, planning or related field, or equivalent experience.


Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience with housing and community development and/or multifamily real estate development is preferred, including project financing; market analysis; deal structuring; and financial analysis.


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: A valid CO driver’s license.


Knowledge of: 

  • Principals and techniques of planning

  • zoning and land use

  • Community development and affordable housing real estate development current practice 

  • issues and housing policy in: (1) affordable housing preservation; (2) mixed finance development; and/or (3) low-income housing tax credits

Skills in: 

  • Understanding and responding to customer needs

  • The use of a personal computer, applicable software programs and office equipment

Ability to: 

  • Simultaneously work on multiple tasks and set priorities

  • Develop innovative approaches to create affordable housing opportunities

  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations

PAID TIME-OFF BENEFITS:

  • Employee Home Ownership Program: To encourage employees to reside within the City limits of Commerce City, we may provide a secured loan for the down payment and/or closing cost assistance on a home in Commerce City. The employee must meet all City criteria as well as first mortgage underwriting criteria.
  • Personal Computer Employee Purchase Program:  To encourage the development of employee computer skills, the City offers an interest-free loan to you for the purchase of computer hardware (including a Desktop or Laptop) and software.  The employee must have successfully completed their 6-month Introductory Period for eligibility.
  • Recreation Center Membership: Employees and family members are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per person per year.
  • Golf Course Green Fees: Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes.  Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.
