Position:                 SHELTER VETERINARIAN (2 Positions)

Salary:                    $120,000 Annually, negotiable based on qualifications and experience

Department:          Public Safety/Animal Care and Control

Location:                7100 Belvedere Road, WPB

Hours:                     Full Time

Other:                     Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

 Will be required to complete a “Willingness to Work” Acknowledgment with application.  Selected candidate must successfully complete the pre-exposure rabies treatment/vaccination.

YOUR ROLE AND IMPACT

·       Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries

·       Diagnose and treat sick and injured impounded animals

·       Advise on biosecurity practices in isolation areas within the shelter

·       Lead and participate in community vaccine & spay/neuter events

·       Advocate for animal justice by investigating cruelty cases, conducting necropsies, and testifying in court

·       Apply One Health principles to protect both animals and human health

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation or scheduled to graduate within nine (9) months of hire, from a recognized school of Veterinary Medicine or a Practitioner License within the State of Florida. 

Necessary Special Requirements:

·       Licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Florida, or

·       Veterinary students graduating from the current year from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)-approved veterinary college who have passed all sections of the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) exam may practice under the direct supervision of Staff Veterinarians while awaiting their Florida license. (Florida State Statute) must obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Florida within nine (9) months of hire.

·       Must be able to obtain a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License within 60 days of start date.

·       Must be able to obtain a Class 2 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) veterinarian accreditation within 60 days of start date.
