Description

This is a responsible senior position involving the implementation of zoning, land use and other related codes, ordinances, and regular position is responsible for assisting with the training and daily operations as a lead position in the Zoning staff, and to ensure that permitting and customer service calls and requests are processed in a timely manner. Assists Zoning and Code Manager/Administrative day-to-day operations of the Zoning office.

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.   Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

  • Reviews and verifies zoning for residential properties.
  • Assists with processing of Single Family Home permits.
  • Responsible for processing Detached Garage permits.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned by Zoning Manager.
  • Responsible for processing Carport permits.
  • Responsible for processing Slab permits.
  • Responsible for processing Site Clear permits. 
  • Responsible for processing Driveway permits.
  • Responsible for processing Sheds below 100 Sq. Ft. permits. 
  • Responsible for processing General Zoning permits.
  • Responsible for emails.
  • Responsible for answering phones.
Emergency Response 
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. 

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED), plus a 2-year degree with major course work in business or public administration.  Experience related to zoning or development regulations may substitute for the 2-year degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the implementation of governmental regulatory codes. Direct work experience related to the development of regulations may be substituted for up to (2) years of general regulatory experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
  • Valid Florida driver's license and be insurable by our current insurance carrier. 
  • Current Certified Floodplain Managers certification through the Association of State Floodplain Managers Association (preferred). 
  • Attend continuing education; maintain certification as directed by management personnel. 
  • Satisfactorily complete other training as required by personnel.

A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.

Environmental Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment working closely with others in occasional noisy office conditions, including computer and printer noises.
  • Works in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
