DAY CAMP DIRECTOR - Parks and RecreationJOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of Recreation Coordinator, assist in the planning, budget reporting, scheduling, and implementation of day camp program. Supervise staff and instructors at multiple locations. Implement lesson plans as needed, and assist day camp staff with keeping activities on schedule. Plan and lead children’s activities as needed, including but not limited to, sports, games, arts and crafts, music, and field trips. Schedule and hold conferences with parents as needed, in person and/or by telephone. Perform other related work as required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Manage the continuous programs and activities of the entire day camp program, at multiple locations, during scheduled hours. Supervise summer staff that includes, but is not limited to, Day Camp Leaders, Teenage Volunteers, and Instructors. Implement lesson plans as needed, and assist day camp staff with keeping activities on schedule. Plan and lead children’s activities as needed, including but not limited to, sports, games, arts and crafts, music, and field trips. Prepare payroll, disburse and receipt petty cash, prepare field trip receipts, and maintain budget information. Keep attendance records and activity lesson plans. Conduct and supervise programs and activities on, and away from, site location. Supervise large numbers of children both visually and audibly to insure health/safety standards are met. Prepare handwritten reports. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, citizens, and program patrons. Schedule and hold conferences with parents, in person or by telephone. Practice continuous public relations in dealing with the public. Work effectively with parents. Work outdoors in extreme heat and fluctuating temperatures. Make effective quick decisions. Implement appropriate discipline procedures. Attend mandatory staff training session prior to the start of camp. Assist in staff training. Conduct and attend staff meetings as required. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required. CPR and First-Aid Certification required, or must obtain during job orientation.EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS: Minimum of three years experience required in working with children. Must have ability to work well with children and adults. Knowledge and skills in education, sports, games, arts and crafts, and music preferred. Ability required in managing large groups of children and working effectively in high noise levels. Must have strong organizational skills. Ability required to adapt easily to change.
