FLEET PORTER - Finance - Fleet Services


JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of Services Coordinator, performs general automotive maintenance and assists Fleet Technicians with general repairs and welding on City vehicles/equipment. Must be capable of following instructions as required and communicating with vendors, staff and other personnel. Driving is a prerequisite and must be able to drive vehicles to various locations within the DFW Metroplex in a safe manner. Must also deliver and accept vehicles and equipment at various locations and pay attention to details as related to transporting vehicle/equipment to and from the Service Center. Performs other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Follow instructions and work with the Services Coordinator to determine priorities/assignments for the day. Check and ensure vehicles/equipment are inspected, and worthy for being sent out for repairs to various vendors/locations. Check-ins are required at all stops and destinations. If sent on parts run, must check all parts received and ensure that parts received are in good condition. Secure all parts in the truck and return safely back to shop or other designations safely and report back to Shop. Follow and obey all traffic laws and regulations. Tests tire pressure and adds air as needed. Thoroughly inspects City vehicles for oil leaks. Makes recommendations for additional servicing based on initial vehicle inspections. Notifies the Fleet Technicians when vehicle maintenance or servicing cannot be completed within scheduled timeframes. Assists other Fleet Technicians as requested. Reads write, and converse in the English language. Communicates courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Accounts for labor and materials to departments on Work Orders. Displays good decision-making ability.  Crawls under and/or climbs on vehicles for inspections. Operates a large variety of City vehicles and equipment. Lifts, pulls and/or pushes up to 100 pounds of parts inventory. Sits, stands, stoops, twists and/or walks for extended periods of time during vehicle inspections. Works both indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat and temperature swings. Uses appropriate safety precautions in performance of job duties.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

May assist with general repairs/installations on City vehicles/equipment. Performs other related work as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES. CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:

High School Diploma or G.E.D required. Texas Class C Driver’s License. Must obtain Texas Class A CDL within twelve (12) months of assignment to position.  

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
One (1) year experience automotive experience required working as a technician in another fleet or retail automotive environment. Knowledge of general welding procedures in automotive or construction field preferred.
